Corporate Grantmaking

1.

Check our Gender Inclusion Checklist. Our report identified eight building blocks that women and girls need to thrive in computing — we’ve outlined them all in this checklist. You can use this tool in discussions with grantees and in designing gender-diversity initiatives to ensure that programs are designed with the specific needs of women and girls in mind. Encourage the programs you support to thoughtfully transition young women smoothly from one experience to the next—and invest to fill any gaps between program offerings.

2.

Take stock of the CS entry points you’re investing in — and then diversify. The Rebooting Representation report from 2018 showed that companies concentrate 66% of their philanthropic funding on K-12 programs, compared to 3% on college-level programs. What can you do to invest in or engage with college-level opportunities?Alternatively, what can you do to support no-experience-required opportunities that provide critical on-ramps to students who develop a later interest in computing?

3.

Work with tech leadership to examine the impact of your CSR and philanthropic programs, using our Metrics Dashboard as a guide. Tracking your current investments and programs will greatly help your company’s (and the entire industry’s) ability to learn from and advance the approaches that are having the most impact.

4.
